You may or may not realize this, but the people that plan and execute the monthly social events and daily activities for New Villagers, volunteer their time. They’re not appointed, or elected, or receive any compensation what so ever for their work. They volunteer because they want to make Tellico Village the best it can be for New Villagers.
The 2021 New Villagers Board has begun to look for volunteers to take positions on the 2022 Tellico Village New Villagers board. Why should you consider volunteering?
Volunteering allows you to not only connect to your community and make it a better place, but provide input as to the direction and activities available in your community. Volunteering is a two-way street: it can benefit you and your family and at the same time it benefits the community you choose to help. Dedicating your time as a volunteer helps you make new friends, expands your network, and boosts your social skills.
Whether you are retired, or still working, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering can be enormous. Volunteering offers help to the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. The right match can introduce you to new friends, connect with the community, learn new skills, and even advance your career if you’re still working.
Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose. Volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a huge amount of time out of your busy day. All positions on the New Villagers Board are a one year commitment, and usually no more than three hours a week.
Each of us has a skill that can be utilized to help the New Villagers club provide a welcoming, fun, experience for everyone. No one is asking you to be something you’re not. Your skills can help continue to make New Villagers a thriving organization that helps all of us live a happy and healthy life in the community we all now call home.
When you consider what the New Villagers club provides to you, the website, Facebook pages, planning all the activities that are available for you to sign up for, the monthly socials, and all of the information that’s provided to you throughout the month, all of it is made available by volunteers. Not a single one of the people that make your life in the Village more enjoyable gets paid.
Without volunteers, the life you enjoy in the Village would change drastically, the activities and information you take for granted may no longer be available.
No one is asking you to be something you’re not. But I bet you have skills to help continue to make New Villagers a thriving community by volunteering those skills for everyone’s benefit. Please consider volunteering for a position that you’re suited for. Training is provided for a seamless transition to the new group of board members. I invite you to investigate some of the roles, ask questions, and understand what’s expected. The incoming group of New Villagers will appreciate your guidance as board members in 2022.
